HRG Opens Office in Maryland

HRG, an award-winning infrastructure consulting firm based in Pennsylvania, recently opened office space in the Professional Arts Building at 1 South Potomac Street in Hagerstown.

The foundation of HRG’s work is civil engineering, but the firm has diverse expertise in community and land use planning, site design, landscape architecture, environmental compliance, and sustainability.

The team is currently working with Meritus Health, Radnor Property Group, Design Collective, Inc., and Morgan Keller Construction on graduate student housing for the new Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine.  The school is scheduled to open in Hagerstown in the fall of 2025.

HRG was named the Design Firm of the Year by ENR Mid-Atlantic in 2021 and has been ranked among the nation’s Top 500 Design Firms by Engineering News-Record 19 years in a row.  The company has experienced significant growth over the past five years and is building capacity for further expansion through 2030, particularly in Maryland. That starts with a local presence, according to assistant vice president, Bill Kick.

“We believe planning and design is personal, so we establish deep ties to an area when we work there,” Kick says. “We want to understand local communities and get to know the stakeholders, so we can best support their long-term goals. The Greater Hagerstown Committee and Washington County Chamber of Commerce have been very welcoming and helped us become a part of the fabric here.  We’re excited to continue working with them and other stakeholders to enhance quality of life in the region.”

HRG’s chief operations officer Ed Ellinger says the firm is specifically looking to serve communities in Washington and Frederick Counties as they expand operations into Maryland.  “This region matches the key characteristics of the regions HRG typically serves,” he says. “It has strong community involvement and a forward-looking vision for growth and quality of life: a great place to live and work!”
