He has been instrumental in the growth seen in the health system in the past few years
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Meritus Health has promoted Dave Lehr from chief strategy officer to chief administrative officer and chief innovation officer.
In his new role, Lehr will continue to drive Meritus Health’s long-term growth by aligning strategic planning, operational excellence and innovation across the organization. He will focus on advancing patient-centered care models, expanding access to critical services in rural and underserved communities, and leveraging technology to enhance quality and efficiency.
“Meritus Health has a strong foundation built on innovation, collaboration and a deep commitment to our community,” Lehr said. “I’m honored to step into this expanded role and continue working alongside our talented team to reimagine how care is delivered — making it more accessible, more responsive and more impactful for the patients and families we serve.”
Lehr has overseen significant growth at Meritus Health, including the dramatic development of the Meritus Medical Group and playing a central leadership role in the creation of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, which opened in July 2025 as the first civilian medical school to launch in Maryland in more than a century. Lehr has also led sustainability initiatives at Meritus Health, with major investments in renewable energy and advanced microgrid systems.
A former healthcare technology executive, Lehr has also contributed regionally and in the state. He was appointed by Gov. Larry Hogan to the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission and most recently appointed by Gov. Wes Moore to the Health Benefits Exchange in Maryland. Lehr also serves on the Washington County Chamber of Commerce board.
