Meritus, Brook Lane Named Among Nation’s Most Beautiful Hospitals

National honor highlights the beauty, healing environments and dedicated caregivers across the Meritus Health and Brook Lane campuses

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The campuses of Meritus Health and Brook Lane were ranked among the Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in a contest sponsored by Soliant Health, an education and healthcare firm.
Marking its second time on the list, Brook Lane came in at No. 9. Meritus, which makes its debut on the list, came in at No. 13.
The annual Most Beautiful Hospitals program looks beyond architecture alone to celebrate the many qualities that can make a hospital beautiful inside and out, from natural light, artwork, thoughtful design and peaceful surroundings to the healthcare professionals and staff who shape the patient experience every day.
“We are thrilled that two of our campuses were ranked on the list of Soliant’s Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals,” said Carrie Adams, Pharm.D., who is president of Meritus Medical Center and interim president of Brook Lane. “While Meritus’ sweeping views and Brook Lane’s pastoral farm fields provide picturesque beauty, it’s really the heart that our nearly 5,000 team members put into caring for our community that is truly beautiful.”
Beyond aesthetics, the campuses are designed to support healing and well-being. From thoughtfully maintained grounds and natural light to patient-centered spaces, the environments at Meritus and Brook Lane help create a sense of comfort that complements the high-quality care delivered by their teams.
“This recognition is a reflection of the pride and dedication our facilities engineering team brings to work every day,” said Jeremie Robinson, director of facilities engineering at Meritus Health. “From maintaining our buildings and grounds to enhancing the appearance of our campuses, our crew works behind the scenes to create welcoming, safe and healing environments for patients, visitors, students and team members. We take great pride in helping ensure our campuses reflect the exceptional care provided inside them.”
Meritus Health’s main campus is off Robinwood Drive and includes the 327-bed Meritus Medical Center and the Robinwood Professional Center, plus the D.M. Bowman Academic Hall and The Meritus Commons, which support the students of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Brook Lane’s main campus is off Leitersburg-Smithsburg Road and includes a 72-bed hospital, the newly constructed D.M. Bowman Rec Center, the Laurel Hall School, a chapel and other facilities to support inpatient services.
With more than 164,000 votes cast for the 57 hospitals nominated, Meritus and Brook Lane emerged among the top 20 facilities recognized by supporters on Soliant’s annual list.
“Every hospital on this year’s list shows that a healing environment is shaped by both the space itself and the people who bring it to life,” said Emily Miller, president of healthcare at Soliant. “These hospitals have created places where patients and families can feel welcomed, supported, and cared for, and the response from their communities is a powerful reflection of the trust and connection they have built.”
Since launching the Most Beautiful Hospitals contest in 2009, Soliant has recognized more than 200 hospitals across the country. The annual program looks beyond architecture alone to celebrate the many qualities that can make a hospital beautiful inside and out, from natural light, artwork, thoughtful design, and peaceful surroundings to the healthcare professionals and staff who shape the patient experience every day.
