Boys & Girls Club of Washington County Members Participate in Camp Guardian at Greenbrier State Park

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County's summer camp program at the Alice Virginia & David W. Fletcher Center recently participated in Camp Guardian, a unique three-day experience held June 29–July 1 at Greenbrier State Park.

Camp Guardian was organized by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police in partnership with the Maryland State Police, Washington County Sheriff's Office, and Hagerstown Police Department. The initiative was designed to foster positive relationships between local youth and law enforcement through engaging activities, educational experiences, and public safety demonstrations.

Throughout the event, Club members and law enforcement officers spent time together participating in games, hands-on activities, and team-building experiences in a fun and welcoming environment.

"Partnering on this special initiative was an easy decision for us," said Addie Nardi, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County. "We believe strongly in creating positive interactions between young people and law enforcement. Building meaningful relationships in supportive settings helps foster trust, understanding, and mutual respect. Camp Guardian provided a wonderful opportunity for our members and officers to connect while having an incredible experience together."

Highlights of the camp included visits from a Maryland State Police helicopter, demonstrations by local K-9 units, and boat rides on Greenbrier Lake, giving participants an up-close look at public safety operations while creating lasting memories.

The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County currently operates four after-school programs and summer camps in Hagerstown and one site in Frostburg. The organization's mission is to enable all young people—especially those who need us most—to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Since its founding in 1941, the Club has served thousands of young people and currently impacts approximately 700 youth ages 6–18 annually.
