Artist Statement:

Christopher Shingler

Born in 1958, I’ve spent my life rooted in Hagerstown, Maryland. At age 26, I experienced a spiritual awakening that continues to guide my life and creative practice. I married in 1987 to a wonderful woman from Pennsylvania, and together we’ve raised three sons—born in 1990, 1995, and 1996—and are now blessed with beautiful grandchildren.

I began oil painting in 2001, at the age of 41. Since then, I’ve spent over two decades exploring various mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, woodworking, concrete, and mixed media. My work also includes a mural completed in October 2023.

Now, in 2025, I reflect on 25 years of creating art—a journey of faith, craft, and ongoing discovery.
